FAMILY TIES

Linda Harrison, most famous for her role as the mute, dark-haired beauty "Nova" in the first two PLANET OF THE APES movies, was married to JAWS co-producer Richard Zanuck at the time Universal was filming JAWS and was promised the role of Ellen Brody. Unaware of this, Steven Spielberg gave the role to Lorraine Gary, wife of then Universal President Sid Sheinberg. Things had a way of working themselves out and Ms. Harrison ended up as a passenger on the jet Charlton Heston pilots to safety in AIRPORT '75. And as she told me in 1998, she did get to spend three splendid months on Martha's Vineyard during the filming of JAWS!

NO RESPECT

30 years have passed and I'm still really bummed my scene with Dreyfuss and the Tiger Shark ended up on the cutting room floor.

Bruce Timm, designer, artist, animator and co-creator of the wonderful BATMAN, SUPERMAN & JUSTICE LEAGUE Animated Series had this to say when asked about his favorite movies:

"JAWS is a perfect movie. JAWS is one of those movies that has literally no flaws. If you're flippin' the channels some day and TBS is running JAWS for, like, the 15th time that year, it's like, "Okay, I'll just watch this until the boring part comes on," and there's no boring parts. The script is brilliant, all the performances are brilliant. It's not cloying like Spielberg can be in places; he later got a little too cute for his own good sometimes, but everything in JAWS is just right."

With those words above in mind, here's a scan of an original BATMAN The Animated Series cartoon cel from my collection. The episode this cel was used for was titled, "The Laughing Fish" and featured Batman's most feared nemesis, the Joker!

Word has it that before they chose the title, "JAWS- THE REVENGE" for the fourth movie and final sequel in the JAWS series that these other titles were given serious consideration:

"JAWS V.S BAHAMA MAMA"

"SHOWDOWN IN CLEAR, WARM WATERS"

"YURI GELLAR AND HIS AMAZING TELEPATHIC SHARK"

"WHERE YOU GO, HE GOES"

"SHARK, WHO GOES THERE?"

"MICHAEL CAINE'S REALLY BAD DECISION"
